Sometimes I wish I could go back in time to when I was just starting out so I could talk my younger self through some challenging times I encountered in my career.

To my 17 year old self I’d say to look fear in the face and choose the scarier route. Not let the worry or the naysayers get in the way of my dream. Life is scary but this is the time to enjoy more and worry less. Also to invest more in my process instead of relying on my instincts to carry me through. Yes, you are talented but talent only gets you so far. You need to put in the work as well. Find your voice, step out of your shell and enjoy this moment in time.

To my Twenty-something self living in LA, to not let rejection stand in my way. Yes, it’s a tough town but don’t let it bring you down. You know your talent. You are worthy to be here so stand tall and show them why you are here. This is all you’ve ever wanted to do so don’t lose sight of it. Remember to focus on your goals and less on the distractions. Yes, it’s a fun town but let’s not lose sight of why we are here. Let’s achieve those dreams.

To my Thirty-something self living in Australia, to not get so frustrated with business side of acting. Some things you can’t control but you can shift your outlook on the biz and create your own set of rules in a positive and effective way. The light bulb has clicked. You get it now. Use this knowledge for your own benefit and make things happen!

The thing I like best about entering my Forties is that I have less of a ‘care factor’ when it comes to my craft. I enjoy the audition so much more now because I care less about being perfect or getting the role and just treat it as an opportunity to show others what I enjoy to do which is perform. It’s my outlet therefore every time I audition it is my time to shine. It is for me. Whether I get the job or not I am happier now. I have found the joy that had been missing when I tried too hard. I am happy with my process, my discoveries and with myself.

So, younger self, life is a learning curve. It is a journey. Your career is a journey. There is no right or wrong. Enjoy every moment because it goes so very fast. Life is a work in progress and I am happy to keep on learning as I carry on with this life.
