That's coming up next, ready to go behind the scenes and learn what it really takes to stand out as the voice of your brand. I'm Katherine Beck, voice actor and voice coach and after 20 years of being the voice of other brands, I'm here to show you how your voice is your most powerful tool to creating the impact, influence and income you desire. The world is your global stage. So get ready to uplevel your voice and your personal brand. This is the voice of your brand podcast. We will get started with today's episode in just a moment. But first, I wanted to share a thought that has been going around in my head for quite some time. And I've been meaning to create a Instagram quote, post or do a story or a tick tock or Instagram reel on this and I have yet to do so. So I want to share it with you here on the podcast. And it's this thought I've been thinking quite a lot about lately. And it comes from an observation of being on tick tock Instagram, seeing what other people are doing. Because I often go on there and just do a little bit of research and observation of what other content creators are doing in the space, what seems to be working, what's not, what I see is a lot of following a lot of reaching for the viral NIS to get follows. And I always have this thought that keeps going in my head when I'm watching these reels in tic TOCs. And it's like you're watching the same thing. It's like, I remember when I was in film school, we watched this movie called I think it was nine variations of the same theme. And it involved dance. I remember I think it was like a dance. But it was like nine different variations. Maybe I don't know, if you have seen this movie, if you went to film school, or you saw this movie, let me know, please, because it really was one of those strange moments where something I watched or learned really stuck with me was this idea of these different variations within the same theme. And it goes along the lines of something else I've been thinking about lately, which is this idea of there's really no original ideas at this point. But it's how you present the ideas. It's your point of view on these ideas. And it got me thinking about this movie, which I think was called Nine variations of the same theme. And the reason I bring this up is the other thought that I've been having over and over and over again, when I go on social media is that I see a lot of people being thought followers, and we have this amazing opportunity. We all have thoughts and point of views as being content creators as influencers, to be thought leaders. And why would you want to be creating all this content, in a sense, being a thought follower, when you have this amazing opportunity to be a thought leader? And I thought about it? And I'm like, Well, what why is that? Why are people taking so to speak the safe route by doing the viral things, the trend sounds and the this and that. And I think it's because in the back of our mind, afraid to go against the norm, afraid to go against the pack, afraid to put ourselves out there and say something that might be a little bit different. When we see something that's working, we think, Well, that's an easy thing to do. If I do that, I will also get that result. So it's easy to go for the other thing that people are doing that seems to be working. If they do it, then it should work for me as well. But that's not always the case. And so, in those moments, challenge yourself, to not just be the thought follower, to do what everyone else is doing. But to challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone and be the thought leader that you know that you are deep down inside. And you may have been holding back. Today's the day that you're no longer going to hold back because somebody out there needs to hear what you have to say. And if you hold it in, you're holding back something that they need. So today I asked you be a thought leader and not the thought follower. All right. Let's dive in to today the five key ingredients for standing out as the voice of your brand. Okay, I have a question for you. Do you ever feel All awkward showing up online. You know, speaking into a phone and sharing your words, your thoughts, your your feelings with the world, it's kind of a weird thing when you think about it. And I have to say I have battled with this myself, even though I come from an acting background. And I've always felt really comfortable and confident playing another character. I used to be really shy. And well, you know, when it came to things like speaking up in class, or speaking up in front of a group of people, I found that really scary. And I'm wondering, can you relate to this as well. So when you share yourself, you are opening yourself up to others, right? And you're letting people in, you're letting them know who you are. And this can be a really scary sort of daunting thing. When you open yourself up, you are allowing yourself to be vulnerable. And you might think, Well, why do I need to do that? Why do I need to share myself my authentic self with my audience? Can I just be a persona, you know, my professional persona of who I am and who I want to project to my audience, this professional aspect of myself? Yeah, I totally get that. But here's the thing is that now more than ever, people really want and need that connection, a personal connection, and a very impersonal digital world. When we're looking online, and we're on these different online platforms and social media, there's already a massive disconnect there. So how can we connect to somebody online? Well, we can do so with our voice, we can connect to them very easily with our voice where it actually feels like we're in the same room with them. Now, sharing my voice, my authentic self definitely did not come easy. And it's definitely been a work in progress for me to continue to feel comfortable and confident showing up online and showing up as the voice of my business. So for me, I'm sharing my my struggles with you and what I've learned along the way to hopefully help you out as well. Because let's face it, here's the thing, if you are an entrepreneur or an influencer, or an actor, or basically working for yourself, you are your brand, you are your personal brand. And a massive part of being a personal brand. Is your voice sharing your voice with the world? So how do we show up as a best version of ourselves? When we speak to our audience? How do we feel comfortable and confident using our voice online? And doesn't get any easier? Yes, yes, it does get easier with practice, you know, it's a skill like anything else. And the more you practice the skill, the easier it gets. So for me when I recognize when I started coaching and teaching, and I needed to find a way to share my authentic voice with my audience, show up with authority, sound like an expert speak with intention and impact. What I discovered was there were five real key ingredients to not just feeling confident using my voice in front of others, but also standing out. So that's what I want to break down with you in this episode. So let's get to it. All right, I like to think of these five key ingredients as connections, like I said, before, we need to remove that disconnect the digital world can very easily disconnect us from our audience. So to remove that disconnect and get to feel like you're actually having an in person conversation with someone they need to be impacted by your words. That all starts with the first key ingredient, which is your mind, your mind is the foundation for all the other ingredients. And if you're not setting up your mind, how do you expect to create impact and influence with your audience to want to take action, whatever that action may be, let's say it's to work with you. So if your thoughts and your feelings are not aligned with your audience, you're not speaking on the same level. If you are too worried about how you sound, or you're feeling fearful of judgment, or you're wanting to be liked, well, that's only going to get in the way of your message of your words and your audience as well. You're actually getting in the way of your audience. So check in with yourself before you speak and notice how you're feeling. What thoughts are racing through your head. Let's shift the way we think so we can shift the way we speak. And when we can shift the way we speak. We can create that connection with our audience. So if you're feeling nervous, we will hear your nerves when you speak. And if you feel excited, guess what will Hear that excitement in your voice as well. So it all starts with your mind setting up your mind for vocal success. The second connection is connecting to your body. And let's be honest, what was the last time you checked in with your body, but your body really is a foundation, the structure for your voice, it's the home for your voice. And if your foundation is weak, the voice is going to sound weak. So it's really helpful to understand how you hold yourself, and how that structure that foundation actually affects your voice. It affects the outcome. So if you want to project your voice, for example, if you want to project your voice across the room, so it can be heard loud and strong, to perhaps a big auditorium filled with people, it's gonna be really hard to do that if you're hunched over slouching, for example. So I'll do that right now, I'm going to hunched over, and I'm going to start to speak. And if I try and project my voice all hunched over, it's actually really hard to do. And you can hear tension in my body, now translating into my voice. And when I release that tension, and I start to speak from a place of alignment, you can automatically you can already hear the voices much freer. And that's what we want. So before you speak, think about that connection to your body and give yourself the time to set yourself up physically, because that's really going to affect your voice. And now we progress into number three, which is connecting to your breath, your breath is an automatic response within the body, it is something that we do effortlessly, without actually having to think about it. But thinking about your breath before you speak, can actually be really beneficial. This is the one time we want to think about our breath a little bit, not when we're actually in the vocal performance. So when you're connecting and speaking to your audience, but leading up to it, if you can prepare your breath that can be very powerful. You see your breath can either weakened, or it can strengthen your voice. And therefore it can either weaken or strengthen your message. So for example, if you want to sound like a voice of authority, you want to sound like an expert or a thought leader in your fields, well, then you better make sure that you're sustaining your breath. Because when you take those light, shallow breaths, or even hold your breath, you are losing impact, and you're losing strength. And well, let's be honest, it can be hard to then hear your voice. So connecting to your breath can also be a really great way to calm your nerves before you speak. So if you're feeling really nervous before you speak, taking those few moments to connect to your breath, breathing in that deep belly breath can help to ease those nerves put you in a place of calm, which is really where you want to speak. So you can really focus and connect to your audience. Now that leads me to connection number four, which is connecting to your voice. Of course, this is all about voice. So we must connect to our voice. And that basically means building your awareness of your most powerful tool, which is your voice? And how can you enhance what you already have to create impact in influence with your audience? And make money because let's face it, we're in business, right? So what do we usually want to do in business is make money and we can actually make money with our voice. But here's the interesting thing, you can also repel money with your voice too, which is not what we want, right? So the choice is yours. Now personally, I would rather attract money with my voice. But that's just me. And here's the thing, you are already using your voice in your business. So utilizing just a few simple enhancements can make a massive difference in your results. And gosh, it can happen very quickly too. So you'd really be foolish not to connect to your voice. And I like to think of your voice like a musical instrument. Do you want to play one note? Or would you rather play all the notes in your instrument and create a beautiful musical journey for your audience? Personally, I choose the latter. But again, I leave it up to you. And last but not least, connection number five, which is the connection with your audience, and this is the thing that we tend to forget about because we get so trapped and so caught up in our heads thinking and over analyzing every move we make that we forget about the audience and it's really about them because when you show up, it's less about you and more about them. So think about who do you serve? What's there to transformation, what do they want to work with you, the more you can make it about them in that moment when you're speaking and the less about you, the better. You want to connect to their thoughts, their feelings, their needs, their wants, their desires. That's how you create impact in influence with your voice. And that is how you will start to make money by using your voice.
