Growing up I always LOVED gymnastics and I was really good at it but my Mom decided she didn’t want to send me down the path of spending countless hours training in a gym which is fair. It is a tough sport and it’s not for everyone. Oddly enough my daughter is a gymnast. Who knew taking her to a recreational class would end up leading into a path of competitive gymnastics but it did. She’s dedicated, works hard, never gives up but most importantly she loves it.

And for us Actors I think we can learn a lot from gymnasts. When they FAIL they take it as a chance to learn and grow They don’t give up if they have a fall on the balance beam. They get up and do the skill again.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been rejected from auditions but it’s A LOT!! If I treated every job lost as a failure I definitely wouldn’t still be performing today. Which brings me to this video I want to share with you today.

I took an Adult gymnastics class the other night. Now I haven’t done gymnastics in about 20 years so I really didn’t know what I could still do. When we got to tumbling I thought I’d try something I hadn’t done in a while, a front handspring. My first attempt, I fell down.

Second attempt, I fell down again. Then the coach gave me one piece of advice to help me actually get on my feet. So before I began I visualised myself doing the front handspring and sticking the landing. You know what happened? I stuck the landing!!!! I couldn’t believe it. I achieved my goal.

So it doesn’t matter what your goal is, how many failures you have had, how many excuses you have made. Today is a new day. You are going to get out there and make things happen. Try visualising yourself doing exactly what you want to be doing and see if that helps you as much as it helped me 🙂

Hope this helped you out.
